Initial Configuration (Wizard)

The first time you start NewsBin, you will be presented with a series of setup screens.  This setup also occurs whenever you select File > New on the NewsBin menu bar. This section will walk you though those screens.

The first screen is an introductory screen telling you what is needed during the setup process.

The next screen asks you to input the name of your news server.  Do not enter the URL to a web site.  You must enter the address of your NNTP News Server.  Most ISP's provide one for you, however, AOL does not have NNTP news.  MSN does have a news server but they have locked us out by requiring non-standard user authentication.  If you are an AOL or MSN user, we have helpful information for you on our web site. If you do not know your News Server, contact your ISP to find out what it is.

Most news servers provided by an ISP do not require authentication because you are accessing it from their network.  If you are using a third party news server, you will need to fill in the username and password that was given to you when you signed up for the news service.  When in doubt, fill this in.  NewsBin will only offer the username and password to the server if the server requests authentication.

NewsBin comes pre-loaded with the common binary groups available on usenet.  The next setup screen allows you to choose some groups to get started.  After completing the initial setup process, you can get the complete list of groups available on your server by going to Preferences > Group Options...

And finally, the last screen.
